TRYING TO MAKE A HERO OUT OF GILAD SHALIT

It’s almost two months since the spectacular release of Hamas’ ‘prisoner’ Gilad Shalit. Kept out of the limelight and protected from the local paparazzi, the time has finally come for news about him …. this time from Israeli Army Radio sources …. can’t be more reliable than that, eh?

Here goes ….

But first, it should be noted that thousands of Palestinians languishing in Israeli prisons go on hunger strikes every year to bring attention to their plight … incidents that go on without any publicity in the Israeli press or by Army Radio…

Report: Gilad Shalit went on hunger strike while in Hamas captivity

Abducted IDF soldier Shalit, who was was eventually freed in a prisoner swap deal in October, forced Hamas to take efforts toward his release out of fear for his life, according to Army Radio.

Gilad Shalit went on hunger strike while in Hamas captivity, to pressure Hamas into negotiating his release, Army Radio reported on Sunday, citing “Yediot Aharonot.”

The abducted Israel Defense Forces soldier refused to eat, and consequently forced Hamas to take steps towards his release, out of fear for his life, the report said.

According to the report, Iran and Hamas also gave Israel false information as to Shalit’s whereabouts, in an attempt to lure an IDF extraction team into a booby trapped building.

Shalit was kept underground for the entire duration of his captivity and his guards did not change at any point during that time, the report said.

Shalit was released on October 18 after five years in Hamas captivity in a prisoner exchange deal which saw the release of over 1,000 Palestinian prisoners.
