The War Criminal Who Wants to Ethnically Cleanse Jerusalem

According to the Wadi Helwa Information Centre, the “Mayor” of occupied Jerusalem has
announced that the Palestinian population of Jerusalem is being reduced by 70,000 persons with the stroke of a pen. The disenfranchised population consists of Palestinian residents of Jerusalem who had earlier been isolated behind towering walls from the rest of Jerusalem, cutting them off from their work, education and other civic facilities.
Many of the affected had previously been forced to make enormous detours in order to maintain their normal commute activities on both sides of the wall.  As a result, economic activity and social services became increasingly separated, which is what the wall was designed to accomplish.  The disenfranchisement of the isolated population is therefore the final step in expelling persons whom Israel considers to be of the wrong ethnicity and religion (Christian or Muslim).  Henceforth, they will need a special permit (“visa”) to visit areas of the city that were once only a short walk away.  If history is any guide, that permit will become increasingly difficult to obtain.
Short Portrait of the Ethnic Cleanser Barakat
Nir Barakat, ניר ברקת (an ultra-orthodox, extremist jew) is a reserve sniper, a war criminal who served in the paratroopers six years in the occupation army. As a company commander he was involved in war crimes in Lebanon and Syria. He was injured by his own incompetence at handling a grenade in August 1980 in Lebanon in an incident where his friend, a company commander nicknamed “Muki” (Captain Meir Shlomo) was killed. (Click on the images to enlarge them).

Barakat is a murderer, the son of war criminal Zalman Barkat and brother of two war criminals Eli and Omri. Barakat was born October 19, 1959, raised at the zionist colony “Givat Hamivtar” which was established on the hills of Jerusalem in 1970 in the northern part of the occupied Jerusalem.
In 1983 he was discharged from the IDF. In the Reserve he reached the rank of major.
He holds a BS in computer science (related to anti-virus software) and studied at the Hebrew University for an MBA, but never completed the degree. In 1988 he established along with three others (tech BRM) to develop anti-virus software.
Barakat is a perpetrator ethnic cleansing and other crimes against humanity in occupied Jerusalem.  In November 2008, he was elected “mayor” of Jerusalem

This is only the latest in the long history of the ethnic cleansing of Jerusalem and Palestine, which includes the prohibition of building permits to Palestinians, the confiscation of land, the denial of public services, the demolition of living quarters, the separation of families and many other measures that are applied exclusively to Palestinians.  In the meantime, Israel heavily subsidizes Jewish housing and services in order to encourage Jewish Israelis to replace expelled Palestinians wherever possible.
70,000 Palestinian Jerusalemites to be re-classified as West Bank citizens
Monday, 26 December, 2011 – Silwan, Jerusalem (SILWANIC) -  Jerusalem mayor Nir Barakat has announced that the city Municipality will now classify 70,000 citizens of Jerusalem as non-residents, furthering the right wing Israeli campaign to achieve a Jewish majority in East Jerusalem. Seventy thousand Palestinian residents already cut off from the rest of Jerusalem by Israel’s Apartheid Wall will now be cast out on paper as well, with their affairs turned over from the Municipality to the Israeli military’s West Bank civil administration.
Palestinian Jerusalemites vehemently reject the segregation of their city, criticizing the “false justification of security that Israeli authorities peddle in order to take over our lands and separate us from our families – amidst a disgraceful silence from the international community.”
Please stop the ethnic cleansing of Jerusalem
On March 30, 2012, a massive Global March to Jerusalem will take place with people from around the world gathering in Palestine and neighboring countries for a nonviolent march to Jerusalem, to protest the “Judaization” (ethnic cleansing) of Jerusalem.  Here is what you can do to help:
  • Ask your organization to endorse the Global March to Jerusalem (GMJ).  Send the endorsement to organize [at] gmj-na [dot] org.  Endorsing organizations in North America are also welcome to become part of the North American organizing committee and participate in decision making and implementation through their representatives.
  • Ask prominent individuals with whom you are in contact to also endorse and even to participate in the GMJ, if they are willing.  Send the endorsements to organize [at] gmj-na [dot] org.
  • Register at www.gmj-na.org/register to become part of the North American GMJ association of volunteer participants in the march.
  • Help support the march with your donations, which will be used to send volunteers who cannot otherwise participate, to provide regional representation at planning meetings and to educate the public through events, print and electronic media.

J Street Jeremy: Being Pro-Israel Never Talking about Palestinian Rights

 17:33 12/27/2011

By Ira Glunts

On a dreary, rainy evening in late November my friend Pat Carmeli and I were driving to Syracuse to hear Jeremy Ben-Ami speak.  I smiled when Pat turned to me and said, 'I’m going to ask him a question about human rights and the Palestinians.' I responded enthusiastically: 'All right! That should liven things up.'

I am not a big fan of Ben-Ami and went along mainly to see Pat and some Syracuse Israel/Palestine activists I knew would be there.  Yet from the moment Jeremy started to address us, I had the feeling this would be an interesting evening.  Jeremy Ben-Ami, the founder and president of J Street, the self-described “political home for pro-peace, pro-Israel Americans” came to town in order to convince about 100 mostly elderly Jewish suburbanites that Israel should pursue a negotiated two-state resolution with the Palestinians.  And also to help promote a new local chapter of his organization.  The event, which was held at the Jewish Community Center (JCC), was tightly secured by two burly armed uniformed city policemen who were working privately, as is the custom at most Jewish events in and around this medium-sized city in the center of New York State.  (I have previously written about my surprised reaction to the very visible police presence and a bit about Jeremy’s presentation here.)

Jeremy Ben-Ami is an experienced Democratic political hand, who worked for the Clinton administration.  He is a fluent and knowledgeable speaker with an earnest and friendly manner.   The J Street president and head cheerleader sports an adopted surname (I assume inherited from his father) which is quintessentially Zionist, translating as “son of my people.”  This fact alone would have set my late mother’s heart all atwitter.  Reinforcing his appeal to this pro-Israel crowd, Jeremy was decked out in an expensive Washington blue power suit, while wielding an impressive resume that recently expanded to include three years living in Jerusalem.  Peppering his remarks with the common Hebrew phrase, “kol-hakavod” (trans. all right, way to go; literally, all the respect), Ben-Ami cut quite an impressive figure which kind of contradicted his otherwise strikingly nerdy physical appearance.

J Street Jeremy and his organization are highly controversial topics among American Palestine/Israel activists.  Some of the progressive supporters of J Street think that whatever this group can do to soften mainstream Jewish opinion is helpful to the cause of obtaining a lasting peace in the Middle East.  Although Pat Carmeli has some serious criticism of J Street policy and ideology, she subscribes to this view.  Others, like me, think J Street is not helpful because, among other reasons, it espouses a “solution” that will only perpetuate the occupation by creating a Palestinian entity having limited sovereignty that would be an independent state in name only. For Ben-Ami, the current Israeli opposition leader and Operation Cast Lead booster, Tzipi Livni, is the Israeli politician who would best support the J Street vision of peace.  Enough said.

At the Syracuse JCC, Ben-Ami’s remarks were much less liberal than I had expected, much less progressive than his organization’s web pages and his public pronouncements.  He praised AIPAC for delivering huge amounts of U.S. military aid to Israel.  Ben-Ami boasted that Tzipi Livni comes from “good Likud stock like me,” i.e., revisionist, terrorist and racist.  Then the topper for activists: he declared in all seriousness: “There is no Palestinian peace movement” other than Salam Fayyad!

These remarks were apparently crafted to curry favor with the many security hawks in the audience, and also those whose vacations in Israel must include a solidarity visit to the Cave of the Patriarchs and the Jewish ultra-settlement of Tel Rumeida.  Considering the crowd, it was hardly surprising that when Pat Carmeli, the inimitable local activist, asked her question, Jeremy, the usually very slick pro-Israel advocate, who restricts his appearances to Jewish venues, was caught off-guard.  When reading the transcript below, notice that in his response to Pat, Ben-Ami did not recover his composure enough to answer the question he wanted to answer (not the one asked) until the second paragraph, when he returned to his recurrent theme of enthusiastic support for funding the Palestinian Authority.

The real meaning of Carmeli’s question, as opposed to the words as understood literally, was “Will you, Jeremy Ben-Ami, speak out against the Israeli violations of the human rights of the Palestinian people?”  Ben-Ami’s answer was a clear and unequivocal, No!  His response was punctuated by his ironic use of the Hebrew phrase, “kol hakavod” and the audible nervous laughter of Pat and the audience which followed.

During the evening there was much talk about recognition.  If Hamas recognizes the right of Israel to exist, if the Palestinian Authority should recognize Israel as a Jewish State, if the United Nations should recognize Palestine as a member state-- all were discussed during the evening.  From my point of view, the only important recognition is the recognition that the Palestinians are human beings who have too long suffered serious and tragic human rights abuses at the hands of the Israelis.  As long as Jeremy Ben-Ami, J Street and the Jewish community refuse to recognize this fact they will never be effective agents for change.

Transcript of the Carmeli/Ben-Ami Exchange

(November 29, 2011 at the Jewish Community Center of Syracuse)

Pat:   You compared the Palestinians and the Israelis [to a couple] to like a couple that are going through a divorce and they shouldn’t be in a room together.  So you suggest …
Jeremy:  Alone. [Audience laughter]

Pat:  Alone.  So you suggested that the United States would be the mediator.  However, past and current… our politicians will say we support Israel regardless of anything that Israel does.  Usually, the mediator should be …

Jeremy:  More evenhanded.

Pat:  On both sides.  So AIPAC really has our government officials pretty much in their pockets and they steer them in a certain way toward Israel.  I support J Street to an extent, but you want to sway our government officials to be pro-Israel in another way.  But who is going to advocate for the human rights of the Palestinians?  I’m speaking as an Israeli citizen, I lived there, but I’m speaking to you now as an American and I am speaking about our supposed values.  And who is going to advocate for my values?  We are currently giving Israel 8 million dollars a day.  OK.   And we don’t do anything really to help the Palestinians.  Who is going to advocate?  Who is going to be that person?  Who would you suggest?  Because it is really about human rights and fairness.  Who is going to advocate, seeing that the Palestinians and Jews are people both deserving equally of human rights and fair play and justice?

Jeremy:  Those are important sentiments and I come at this from a pro-Israel point of view. [Inaudible] I care about all the people in the world.  I care about global warming, I care about hunger and there’s a lot of things I care about in the world.  The reason I work on this issue is I wanted to be in Israel, it’s the national homeland of the Jewish people… [inaudible]… and I’m proud of and my children and my grandchildren will be proud to be a part of.  That’s why I’m in this …. I’m going to advocate for that.  And I hope that human rights groups and Palestinian rights groups and others will advocate for the human rights of the Palestinian people.

In fact what J Street does is that we do advocate for aid to the Palestinian Authority, right now.  That’s one of our main things.  Because it’s so critical to Israel that there be a Palestinian Authority and the ability of the Palestinian Authority to pay its salaries and to assume their function is right now in question and as soon as that collapses, I think that the two-state solution is on life support.  So I would, we advocate for aid to the Palestinians.  The aid that they get through UNRWA, the UN Refugee Works Administration, we advocate for that.  Because if you don’t [inaudible] you have to get the money from Hamas.  So what a silly idea for us, if we’re trying to weaken the extremists, we’re going to take away the money from the group that’s providing the schools that teach democracy and human rights, we’re going to take the money away from the UN.  So Iran can make up the difference and ….. to have madrasahs … To teach the young kids their brand of fighting.  This is not what we should be doing.

So we advocate for those people and we do it from a pro-Israel perspective.  The organization was founded on the principle that we are fighting for the future of the State of Israel and the Jewish people are where we come from.   Yes, someone has to do human rights work.  I totally agree.  Again, kol hakavod. You know, good luck. [nervous laughter] I’m really supportive, but it’s not for me to answer, that is for other people to do.

Gaza Lives: Reflecting on 'Operation Cast Lead'

18:28 12/29/2011
And the flag that refuses to lie down. (Julie Webb)

By Mohammed AlNadi – Gaza

In Israel, nothing is more rewarding than committing systematic mass killings and war crimes against Palestinians. It seems, according to Israel's moral system and code of conduct, nothing is more trivial than a Palestinian life. Inflicting death on Palestinians is not punishable in Israel but instead ornamented with decoration and job advancement. I reckon it's the highest and most honorable accomplishment through which an Israeli soldier can achieve most prominent ranks in the military.

This has been evident throughout the Palestine-Israel conflict, as countless planned massacres were and are still being committed against Palestinians since Palestine was occupied in 1948, and typically, the perpetrators have always been leaders of sorts, either political or military figures.

For example, every year Palestinians widely remember Sabra and Shatila massacre, in which thousands of Palestinians were slaughtered in Beirut, Lebanon in 1982. An independent Israeli investigation followed at the time, and it held the then minister of defense Ariel Sharon responsible for allowing the massacre to take place. Not only that, Sharon was found guilty of committing several pogroms against Palestinians. However, he never stood a trial; but on the contrary, he kept ascending the highest rungs of power, where he eventually ended up being Israel's prime minister in 2001.

Colonizers living on land illegally sequestrated from Palestinians in the West Bank are possibly most hostile to Palestinians, who are subject to constant humiliation and attacks. Every now and then, news is heard of separate incidents of settlers stabbing an unarmed Palestinian, running over a child, or committing mass murder, like the Israeli settler Baruch Goldstein did in 1994, when he opened fire inside the Ibrahimi Mosque at the Palestinian prayers performing the dawn prayer during the Holy Ramadan, killing 29 persons, and injuring another 125.

Israel's 22 day invasion of the Gaza Strip three years ago was not an exception. Based on universally held moral values and international laws of war, a lot of neutral and fact-based reports conducted by human rights organizations, including the Goldstone report, and consistent documentations proved that Israel committed war crimes against Palestinian civilians. Israel particularly dismissed the Goldstone report as "biased and one-sided," refused to cooperate and claimed it would launch its own investigations.

A year ago, the Guardian reported that: "The military's Judge Advocate General, Maj. Gen. Avichai Mendelblit ordered almost 50 investigations arising from the operation." Surely, one can't help but burst into laughter at what some of these investigations were about. The report continues recounting three specific cases, one of which was "for stealing and using a Palestinian's credit card". Another Israeli soldier was convicted "for forcing an 11-year-old boy to open bags which could have contained explosives." For Israeli judges, stealing one's money—still immoral of the Israeli army--is by all means far more incriminatory than bombing his body. And did Israel really sanctify the Palestinian children’s lives? If so, what about the 352 children who were killed in cold blood? Were they all posing a threat to Israeli soldiers?

Some of the alleged Israeli investigations were reportedly said to be covering—as Col. Tamir Yadi put it—"claims regarding incidents in which many uninvolved civilians were harmed," but not mentioning a single word about Al Samouni massacre, the single most atrocious incident in the entire assault, where Israeli forces had ordered the entire Al Samouni family to gather in one house—of course, to ensure the highest ratio of casualties--before they premeditatedly bombed it, killing 21 persons and injuring 19 others.

The incident, however, grabbed the world's attention as hundreds of media reports and firsthand witnesses amassed. Israel immediately pretended an investigation was under way. Despite the overwhelming evidence, including a bunch of air force officers' compatible testimony, that Ilan Malka, a senior brigade commander, was responsible for authorizing the strike while being aware of a civilian presence in the area. Later on, exactly three years after the massacre, Israel deliberately buried the case and didn't take any legal actions against him, but instead decided to promote him to the position of brigadier general.

This was quite shocking to me, but later I couldn't think of any "state" other than Israel capable of doing this. And in retrospect, I was able to grasp the horridness of this racist, inhumane behavior of Israel.

December 27, 2011 marks the third anniversary of Israel's war--or "Operation Cast Lead," as Israel sinisterly put it-- on the Gaza Strip in late 2008. What can't be coincidental is the day on which Israel initiated its intensive airstrikes before it proceeded with a 22-day operation from land and sea; it was few days before 2008 drew to a close.

The end of every year is and will always be totally different for the people of Gaza, for it evokes all the painful memories of bodies torn asunder, of houses, mosques and schools destroyed. The timing of the strike was absolutely right, that Israel purposely intended to make the grievance of the people of Gaza recurrent.

Even the Gaza youth, instead of celebrating the heraldry of the new year by congratulating each other and posting hopeful wishes on all social networking sites like the people in the rest of the world do, you see most of them posting statuses of reverential sorrow and lamentation, and make the famous corner-taped black background picture indicating mourning for Gaza their profile pictures. Some others post pictures of burnt children or their beloved relatives Israel killed during the 22 days.

The same is true for Christians in Gaza. They suffered just as equally. When they were supposed to celebrate their Holy Christmas peacefully in 2008, Israel rained on their parade and turned it into an absolute nightmare, which is going to be remembered yearly.

The irony seems beyond imagination; while the entire world was preparing to welcome 2009's beginning with celebrations and fireworks, Palestinians in Gaza were made to have their own special rituals and extraordinary fireworks too, but ones that rained downwards and made flesh sizzle and bones melt.

This, however, didn't work completely. It is true Palestinians lost their sons and houses, but one thing they can't lose for sure is their resilient spirit and ability to heal. In Gaza, meanwhile, Christians are going to churches, decorating their Xmas trees and having lively celebrations. Also, Muslims are going to celebrate on the eve of the New Year and hang out with family and friends. My friends and I have plans too.

The Sad, Sad World of Israel's Big-time Liars

18:11 12/29/2011

'A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes' -- attributed to Mark Twain

By Stuart Littlewood

Meet another of Israel's undesirables, Yuli Edelstein.

He is the regime’s Propaganda Minister (or to be more precise, Minister for Dis-information and Diaspora) and he runs the biggest lie machine in the world.

His task is to make the Israel 'brand' smell sweeter. The reason it stinks, of course, is the regime's putrid morals and murderous conduct, which the lie machine works overtime to try to justify and excuse. It will always fail. You cannot build a decent brand image on lies, obnoxious behaviour and a massive attitude problem.

Edelstein hit the headlines over Christmas when he told everybody that the Arabs are "a deplorable nation". He was speaking at a public diplomacy event (incredible as it may seem!) at Yor Yehuda, which I'm told means "light of Juda".

He said that “as long as the Arab nation continues to be a deplorable nation, which continues investing in infrastructure for terrorism, education to hate, and welfare for the families of shaheeds [martyrs], there will be no peace.”

The reporter asked Edelstein's office if the minister was aware that there are some 80 million Arabs in the world, from Sudan to Syria. A spokesman replied: “Yes, there are – and the minister meant them all.”
That's rich coming from someone whose own position doesn’t bear examination. I understand Edelstein lives in one of Israel's illegal settlements, Neve Daniel, which is built on stolen Palestinian land in wilful breach of Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention.

“Settlers” is too nice a word for such people. It suggests peaceful pioneers wishing to integrate with the locals. Israeli “settlers” are anything but. They are aggressive squatters, half a million of them in over 100 illegal colonies – ugly blots on an otherwise lovely landscape. They include gangs of armed delinquents and religious nutters who terrorise local villagers, vandalise their crops, pollute their land and harass their children.  The Fourth Geneva Convention forbids an occupying power to transfer parts of its own civilian population - and that includes Edelstein and his ministerial colleague the psychopath Avigdor Lieberman - into the territory it occupies. Which leaves these two charmers open to charges of war crimes.

Israel’s hasbara liars verge on the compulsive and pathological. Telling lies is routine; they are in denial of reality; they exaggerate; they come to believe their lies; they have no remorse; and they have no regard for the consequences. Despite this, the Western media lap up anything Tel Aviv’s liars spew out.

Edelstein’s capacity for silliness knows no bounds. When the US demanded that Israel suspend a planned project in East Jerusalem (which is Palestinian territory of course) and revoke planning permission, Ynet News reported Edelstein saying that such a demand to halt construction "proves how dangerous it is to get dragged into talks of a settlement freeze… Such talks will lead to a demand to completely freeze our lives in the entire State of Israel."

And he let his Stalinist tendencies (Edelstein’s from the Ukraine) get the better of him earlier this year when he wrote to Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook demanding the removal of a page that was calling for a third Intifada and had generated nearly 250,000 supporters.

How to do it (a teach-yourself primer)

It goes without saying that Israel's lie machine has an instruction manual for those it recruits into its vile business. See it here.

The manual’s general thrust is to win over the mass of “persuadables”, primarily in America but also in the UK. The strategy from the start is to isolate democratically-elected Hamas and to rob the resistance movement and the Palestinian people of their human rights. This quote at the beginning sets the tone: "Remember, it’s not what you say that counts. It’s what people hear."

The lie machine's top priority: demonise Hamas…

And this is how they try it on...

• “Clearly differentiate between the Palestinian people and Hamas. There is an immediate and clear distinction between the empathy Americans feel for the Palestinians and the scorn they direct at Palestinian leadership. Hamas is a terrorist organization – Americans get that already. But if it sounds like you are attacking the Palestinian people (even though they elected Hamas) rather than their leadership, you will lose public support. Right now, many Americans sympathize with the plight of the Palestinians, and that sympathy will increase if you fail to differentiate the people from their leaders.”

• "Draw direct parallels between Israel and America—including the need to defend against terrorism.... The more you focus on the similarities between Israel and America, the more likely you are to win the support of those who are neutral. Indeed, Israel is an important American ally in the war against terrorism, and faces many of the same challenges as America in protecting their citizens."

Note how Israel’s strategy is almost totally dependent on the false idea that they and America are victims of terror and all western nations need to huddle together with Israel for mutual protection. Fortunately, level-headed people are beginning to realize who the terrorists really are.

It is surely obvious by now that allowing parallels to be drawn between Israel and America only serves to increase the world’s hatred of America. US citizens are very belatedly waking up to this, as are British citizens, but many continue to fall ass-over-tit into the trap.

Next, inject with “core values” and repeat over and over and over again…

• "The language of Israel is the language of America: 'democracy,' 'freedom,' 'security,' and 'peace.' These four words are at the core of the American political, economic, social, and cultural systems, and they should be repeated as often as possible because they resonate with virtually every American."

If so fluent in this splendid language, why won’t Israel acknowledge their neighbours’ rights to democracy, freedom, security and peace and end their military oppression?

• "A simple rule of thumb is that once you get to the point of repeating the same message over and over again so many times that you think you might get sick—that is just about the time the public will wake up and say 'Hey—this person just might be saying something interesting to me!' But don’t confuse messages with facts.... "

Right, never let facts get in the way of a good message!  And, as George Dubya Bush, 43rd US President, said: "See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda."

• "The fight is over IDEOLOGY, not land; terror, not territory. Thus, you must avoid using Israel’s religious claims to land as a reason why Israel should not give up land. Such claims only make Israel look extremist to people who are not religious Christians or Jews.”

If the fight isn’t about land, why did Israel steal it at gunpoint? And why won’t they give it back when told to repeatedly by the UN?

Then there's the uncontrollable urge to possess the Holy City...

• "The toughest issue to communicate will be the final resolution of Jerusalem. Americans overwhelmingly want Israel to be in charge of the religious holy sites and are frankly afraid of the consequences should Israel turn over control to the Palestinians. Consider:
# 71% of Americans trust Israel most to protect the holy sites in Jerusalem, compared to 6.1% who trust the Palestinian authority most. 8.5% percent trust neither.

# 54% of Americans believe that “Jerusalem must remain united under Israeli sovereignty” while just 23.9% believe that ‘Jerusalem should be divided into Israeli controlled and Palestinian controlled areas’.
Given the choice between the two, Americans of all political and demographic stripes trust Israel to protect and have sovereignty over Jerusalem."

The Old City and east Jerusalem are Palestinian. Nevertheless, "Jerusalem must remain the united capital of Israel," says prime minister Netanyahu. Israel is in control right now and prevents Muslims and Christians from outside the City visiting the holy places. No way can Israel be trusted.

The UN's partition plan decreed that Jerusalem should become a ‘corpus separatum’ under international administration. It is unlikely that the UN would wish to see its resolutions torn up or international law re-written for Israel’s sole benefit or to suit America’s misinformed opinion.

Oh, and let's put the boot into the other demon, Iran...

• “Many on the left see an “Israel v. Palestinian” crisis where Israel is Goliath and the Palestinians are David. It is critical that they understand that this is an Arab-Israeli crisis and that the force undermining peace is Iran and their proxies Hezbollah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad. You must not call Hamas just Hamas. Call them what they are: Iran-backed Hamas. Indeed, when they know that Iran is behind Hamas and Hezbollah, they are much more supportive of Israel.”

By the same token we must call the racist regime what it is – US-backed Israel.

The plight of the Palestinians under Israel’s heel was of international concern long before Hamas appeared on the scene. Iran’s support for Hamas is difficult to quantify and probably less than we think. In any case it is peanuts compared to America’s support for Israel.

Hamas, as everyone knows, is an offshoot of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and was founded in 1987 during the first Intifada. Hezbollah came into being in 1982 in response to US-backed Israel’s invasion of Lebanon. So the territorial ambitions of US-backed Israel provoked the rise of both. US-backed Israel’s problem is entirely self-inflicted and shouldn’t concern the rest of us at all.

The lie machine’s propaganda manual is indeed an evil document oozing poison. It shows better than anything else why the Israeli regime can never, never, never be trusted and is therefore no partner for peace.

Edelstein should reflect on how being a fabricator and dealer in lies, and a war criminal too, is about as low a thing as a man can be. But, Israel being Israel, creatures like him and that unprincipled mouthpiece Mark Regev are guaranteed a job.

France condemns Israel's settlement plans

Published yesterday 21:20
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- France on Thursday condemned Israel's decision to expand Gilo settlement and build a tourism center in East Jerusalem.

Jerusalem municipality on Wednesday approved 130 new settler homes in Gilo and a tourism complex in Silwan, a flashpoint Palestinian neighborhood.

France said it was "deeply concerned" by the announcements, which it described as "provocative" in a statement from its consulate in Jerusalem.

"France also condemns the agreement concluded by the Israeli government to retroactively legalize the outpost of Ramat Gilad in the northern West Bank. All outposts must be dismantled, as Israel pledged to do so under the 2003 roadmap," the statement added.

Israel on Wednesday agreed to legalize the Ramat Gilad outpost near Qalqiliya.

Noting that all settlement activities are illegal under international law, France urged Israel to abandon the projects "in order to establish between the parties a climate of trust that is conducive to the resumption of direct negotiations."
